Cooking Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure even baking.
Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain excess fat and set aside.
Sauté the sliced onions in the same skillet with olive oil or butter over medium-low heat for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
Mix in minced garlic and fresh thyme during the last 2 minutes of cooking the onions.
Combine the cooked ground beef, caramelized onions, uncooked rice, French onion soup, and beef broth in a large mixing bowl. Add salt and pepper to taste and mix well.
Spread the mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish and cover with aluminum foil.
Bake for about 45 minutes to allow the rice to cook and flavors to meld.
Uncover and sprinkle shredded cheese on top. Return to the oven for another 10-15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
Let the casserole rest for 5-10 minutes before serving for easier serving and to enhance flavors.
Optional: Garnish with fresh thyme leaves for added color and flavor.
