  • spatula
  • Wire rack

Ingredients

For the Cake

  • 1 cup Unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cloves
  • 3 large Eggs

For the Fruit Mixture

  • 2 cups Dried fruits (raisins, currants, chopped nuts) packed with nutrients
  • 1 cup Apple juice or non-alcoholic spiced drink

Instructions

How to Make Friesische Weihnachtstorte

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a round cake pan by greasing it and lining the bottom with parchment paper for easy removal later on.
  • Soak your dried fruits and nuts in apple juice for at least an hour.
  • Cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl until the mixture is light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Sift the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and any other spices together in a separate bowl.
  • Combine the dry ingredients with the butter mixture gradually. Mix until just combined; be careful not to overmix. Fold in the soaked fruits and chopped nuts gently.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes.
  • Cool the cake in the pan for about 10 minutes after baking. Transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Dust the top with powdered sugar or decorate with marzipan once cooled. Optional: Garnish with candied fruits or nuts.

Notes

For best results, ensure your butter is at room temperature before creaming. Avoid overmixing the batter once flour is added for a lighter cake. Soak dried fruits for at least an hour for enhanced flavor.
