How to Make Fresh Apple Cake
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan.
Whisk together the dry ingredients in a bowl: combine flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
In a separate bowl, beat together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time and mix well, then stir in vanilla extract.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring just until combined. Fold in grated apples and walnuts if using.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes. Allow to cool in the pan.
Prepare the frosting by beating cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually mix in powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
Once the cake is cool, spread the cream cheese frosting over the top and serve.
For a lovely finish, optionally dust the sliced cake with cinnamon before serving.
