Baking Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Whisk together the dry ingredients in a bowl: 1 ½ cups of all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Set this delicious mixture aside for later.
Cream together in a separate large mixing bowl: 1/2 cup of softened unsalted butter, 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, and 1/2 cup of brown sugar until light and fluffy—about 3-4 minutes.
Incorporate 2 large eggs into the creamed mixture, adding them one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each. Add red food coloring and mix until it reaches a festive hue.
Combine the dry ingredient mixture with the wet ingredients gradually, mixing just until combined to avoid overmixing.
Divide the dough into two equal portions. To one half, add green food coloring and mix until fully incorporated.
Cover both portions of dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of the red and green dough. Roll each into a ball and coat generously in powdered sugar.
Arrange the coated dough balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space for spreading. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are set but centers remain soft.
Cool the cookies on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
Optional: Dust with additional powdered sugar before serving for an extra festive touch.
