Instructions

Baking Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Whisk together the dry ingredients in a bowl: 1 ½ cups of all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Set this delicious mixture aside for later.
  • Cream together in a separate large mixing bowl: 1/2 cup of softened unsalted butter, 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, and 1/2 cup of brown sugar until light and fluffy—about 3-4 minutes.
  • Incorporate 2 large eggs into the creamed mixture, adding them one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each. Add red food coloring and mix until it reaches a festive hue.
  • Combine the dry ingredient mixture with the wet ingredients gradually, mixing just until combined to avoid overmixing.
  • Divide the dough into two equal portions. To one half, add green food coloring and mix until fully incorporated.
  • Cover both portions of dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  • Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of the red and green dough. Roll each into a ball and coat generously in powdered sugar.
  • Arrange the coated dough balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space for spreading. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are set but centers remain soft.
  • Cool the cookies on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.

Notes

Optional: Dust with additional powdered sugar before serving for an extra festive touch.
