Instructions

How to Make Creme Brulee French Toast

  • Begin by cutting your brioche or challah into thick slices, approximately 1 to 1.5 inches.
  • In a large mixing bowl, vigorously whisk together the eggs, half-and-half, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt.
  • Place the thick slices of bread in a shallow dish and generously pour the custard mixture over them.
  • While the bread soaks, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish.
  • Lay the soaked bread slices in the greased baking dish, slightly overlapping each slice.
  • Slide the dish into your preheated oven and bake for about 30-35 minutes.
  • After baking, sprinkle a fine layer of granulated sugar over the top and use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar.
  • Allow the Creme Brulee French Toast to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For the best results, use day-old bread or slightly stale brioche or challah, and soak overnight for richer flavor.
