Ingredients

For the Batter

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

For the Frosting

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk or dairy-free alternative
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter softened

For the Swirl

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar additional
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon additional

Instructions

Making the Bars

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  • Cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
  • Whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in another bowl.
  • Combine the dry mixture into the creamed butter and sugars gradually until just combined.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Mix together additional brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl for the swirl.
  • Spread half of the batter into the prepared baking dish and sprinkle the cinnamon mixture over it.
  • Dollop the remaining batter on top and spread it evenly.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Whisk together the frosting ingredients in a bowl until smooth and creamy while the bars cool.
  • Frost the cooled bars generously, cut into squares, and enjoy!

Notes

For added flair, you can sprinkle a bit of cinnamon on top of the frosted bars before serving.
