Equipment

  • large pot
  • Large skillet
  • measuring cups
  • measuring spoons
  • Cutting board
  • Knife

Ingredients

For the Main Dish

  • 12 oz pre-cooked chicken sausage a quick and tasty protein that adds great flavor.
  • 1 cup orzo pasta cooks up fluffy and absorbs the delicious broth.
  • 2 cups fresh broccoli florets packed with nutrients and color, adding a fresh crunch.
  • 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth enriches the dish and keeps it savory without overwhelming saltiness.

For the Seasoning

  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese brings a creamy, cheesy goodness that ties all the flavors together.
  • 2 tbsp olive oil perfect for sautéing the sausage and broccoli while adding healthy fats.
  • 1 tsp salt enhances all the flavors; adjust to your taste preferences.
  • 1/2 tsp pepper adds a gentle kick for balanced seasoning.
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes for a touch of heat, making the dish even more compelling!

Instructions

Directions

  • Chop the chicken sausage into bite-sized pieces. Make sure to rinse the broccoli and cut it into florets. Measuring out the orzo will keep you organized for the next steps.
  • Boil a large pot of salted water. Add the orzo and cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, until al dente. Once done, drain the orzo and set aside.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat and drizzle in olive oil. Add the chopped chicken sausage and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until browned and heated through, filling the kitchen with savory aromas.
  • Add the broccoli florets to the skillet and continue to sauté for another 3-5 minutes. If needed, splash in a bit of water to help steam the broccoli until it's tender and vibrant green.
  • Combine the cooked orzo with the sausage and broccoli in the skillet. Pour in the chicken broth and stir well to mix everything. Let it all simmer together for about 2-3 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.
  • Season the dish with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Remove from heat and stir in the Parmesan cheese until melted and creamy. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

Optional: Garnish with fresh parsley for an extra pop of color!
