Equipment

  • small wooden skewers

Ingredients

For the Skewers

  • 32 pieces small wooden skewers
  • 64 leaves fresh basil leaves approximately
  • 16 pieces cherry tomatoes halved
  • 32 ounces mini mozzarella balls ciliegine or bocconcini

For the Finish

  • 4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil to drizzle
  • 1 teaspoon flaky sea salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper to taste

Optional Additions

  • 1 cup pitted kalamata olives optional
  • 4 ounces thinly sliced smoked or Genoa beef salami optional
  • 4 tablespoons balsamic glaze optional

Instructions

How to Make Caprese Skewers

  • Rinse the cherry tomatoes thoroughly and dry them gently. Slice them in half if you prefer. Drain the mozzarella balls and pat them dry to reduce moisture. Wash and dry the basil leaves; larger ones can be folded or torn into manageable pieces.
  • Gather your prepared ingredients—tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, and skewers. Start threading them onto each skewer in an alternating pattern. A delightful arrangement can be: tomato, basil, mozzarella, tomato, basil, and end with a third tomato. If using optional ingredients like kalamata olives or salami, slip them between the other components.
  • Drizzle your skewers with extra virgin olive oil, followed by balsamic glaze. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt and a dash of black pepper. Optionally add extra fresh basil leaves to the platter for garnish.

Notes

Assemble your skewers just before serving to guarantee maximum freshness and vibrant flavors.
